When it comes to IKEA coffee table hacks, LACKs are oft the starting point. But today, we found a HEMNES that got a country rustic upgrade, with a new "barnwood" top.

With gray paint and some wood planks, Jennifer from City Farmhouse put together this shabby chic top for her coffee table that is totally removable and took only two hours! We love the beachy feel and the texture the top adds.

Be still my heart! So nice!
Very cool. Might try it with a darker stain on top!
nice job
I like the color, and this looks great. I don't do rustic, but it amde me wonder about other more contenporary finishes, and suddely I have the urge to have one metal flaked! (Like a motorcycle!) Silver, maybe...
Awesome!
AT has been featuring some great hacks lately. Keep up the good work.
Love love love! Fab
I love it. If I had a little more room, I think I could substitute this for the Thomas the Train table that has taken over my living room. It seemed like a good idea at the time . . . .
love it!!! so pretty and calm and peaceful.
I'm not into rustic, shabby chic, distressed but when I saw the after, I just said SHUT MY MOUTH...Beautifully done. Love the 'white-washed' (?) look.
I'll second that ( again) Lyonstill.
Love it! Darn! I just gave my Ikea Hemnes table to my sister. Wish I kept it to try this out. Nice hack.
That is so beautiful as someone who love shabby chic! Lovely lovely job!
Agreed - normally I hate rustic furniture, but this came out great!
Love it!
Very nice work!
Such a nice hack!
So gorgeous! I'm going to have to try something like this on some cheap-o coffee tables I bought at Ikea that are not really working with the rest of my decor. Thanks for the inspo!

I really LOVE this redo! I will have to pin this for a future project!
Wow! Looks great! Haha I probably would have just nailed real nails in it - paint was way smarter! Awesome hack!
This is too good to be called 'shabby chic' which should have gone the way of shag carpet and conversation pits.
Awesome.
Oh my... My neighbor put one of these out on the street for free so I cut down the legs and made it into a toddler play table. Clearly, I should have thought bigger...
Love the top. Inspires me to move forward on my own hack.
Love it!
LOVE!! Great transformation!
hahahaha....
Real nails were nailed into a sub-board. The nails were silver in color and then painted black...but they are real nails.
Amazing transformation from ultra-modern to shabby chic. Well done!
Jennifer has an awesome blog!! Her home was beautiful to begin with (awesome light and space), and she has created a serene, comfortable and real space. I love love love that she accomplished this without running to the nearest store to purchase 'matchy' furniture... she took the time to consider each room, waiting until just the right inspiration struck to redo existing furniture as well as a few lucky 'garbage picks'. As much as I love this hack, I REALLY LOVE the photo gallery wall that she made! It's something that anyone could tweak to fit their own decor. Truly lovely!
