- Chicago, IL
- U.S. Owner
- My room makeover::
- We rented our home for 2 years, and when the owners told us they were listing, we jumped at that chance. This Chicago row house is 140 years old, so we have been renovating floor by floor. And even though the kitchen was pretty updated (granite counters, stainless steel) there was one major flaw -- a rodent issue. Yep. Mice. Without going into too much detail, we knew we had to pull the cabinets out to properly address the problem. And well, if you are pulling the cabinets, you should replace the countertops. And the backsplash. And the oven. And then it quickly spirals into a complete gut just like that. I actually sold the old kitchen on Craig's List. Someone came and took everything, including the kitchen sink! So essentialy we got paid to have it demoed. Our budget was $20k.
- My makeover advice::
- Budget budget budget and stick to it. But you will still go over.
- What I love most about my new space::
- What I love most is that our family can be in the kitchen and not worry about a mouse running out from somewhere! And the chandeliers. And the oven. And the counters. And well, all of it really.
