My room makeover::
My husband and I just purchased our first home. It's a 1950s ranch and it has great bones but it needed some cosmetic updating. We wanted to do the smaller bathroom first, since this is my first construction experience. My husband has a background in residential remodels so he and I did all the work. From start to finish it took us a little over a month. We are real weekend warriors and we tried to do what we could in the evenings after work. I wanted to do everything for under $1000 but things pop up and we spend just over $1200 for everything. We kept the existing shower and toilet but the vanity and sink top is from Lowe's. We lucked out getting the shelving unit from my parents who were just throwing it away. The light fixture was from Wayfair and the faucet is Pfister from Home Depot. The flooring is vinyl plank from a local store called Real Deal Flooring. The paint color is Gliddon Pewter Gray.
My makeover advice::
For anyone who is considering a bathroom refresh or remodel I would say be flexible. I thought we would have tile behind the original vanity that we removed and I planned on keeping it, but when we took out the vanity there was just cracked plastic tile that didn't match and some big holes. We had to take out the walls down to the studs and replace the drywall which was a little more than I first bargained for.
What I love most about my new space::
I love how clean our space looks now. I feel happy just being in there. It looks so much brighter and open without the dark trim, wallpaper and heavy vanity.
