Round of applause for Chelsea and her terrific eye! While taking her Mom out for her birthday (awww) Chelsea picked up this diamond in the rough and took it home for a little TLC, and boy did it pay off!
From Chelsea: This piece was sitting outside in the muddy lawn of an antique shop this past Spring when I took my Mom out for her birthday. I had no intention of making a purchase of my own but couldn't pass this soggy piece by without wondering what it could be if it were restored.
After letting it dry out in my garage for a month, I finally got to work stripping all the bird doo and original stain from the piece, then re-stained it to this gorgeous warm wood! The cabinet doors revealed a unique 'bow-tie' design that I absolutely adored! Taking a cue from the bow-ties, I searched and finally found brass and bone hardware that compliment its newly sophisticated feel.
The piece was missing its back when I found it and after some convincing from my Mom I ended up leaving it backless - it's so different and takes on a lighter presence in the space! Pieces like this shouldn't be confined to the walls of a dining room - I love it as a dining room storage piece - but I really adore shoving in our favorite reads and creating a smart looking study piece.
