- My room makeover::
- My fiancé and I are first-time homeowners and couldn't wait to move into our new house. Two weeks after we closed on our dream home, a 115 year old house in rural GA, a storm came through and a tree fell onto the back of the house and caused extensive damage all throughout the house. The former mudroom was completely crushed by the tree, and the back of the house had to be completely rebuilt. We hadn't had any plans to renovate, but as the mudroom backed up to the master bedroom, we thought why not add a master bath?! The process took about 4 months, but we are so happy with the result. I wanted the bathroom to have a traditional feel to match the vibe of the rest of the house, so I chose subway tiles for the shower and hex tiles for the floor, which were also very budget friendly! My splurge was the "arctic blanc" marble top for the vanity, and I haven't regretted it once!
- My makeover advice::
- Make sure that you really have an accurate budget for the tastes and style of fixtures that YOU love, not what your builder thinks you should have. Mine tried to talk me into a shower insert to cut costs, and I would have been miserable with the result.
- What I love most about my new space::
- I love that we decided to get a handheld and a rainfall shower head in the bathroom. It feels like a spa! I also love the vanity lights, which I bought on sale at Restoration Hardware. And of course I am in love with the marble, which everyone tried to talk me out of because it does show wear and tear, but it makes me so happy every day that a few etches are worth it to me.
