- My room makeover::
- When we purchased our 1925 home, the bathroom was in complete disrepair and required a full renovation. My husband and I set forth, hoping to complete the renovation within 30 days. This turned into 6 months when a slew of issues presented themselves throughout the renovation. The day my husband fell through the rotten subfloor into the dining room below (and the bruise that followed!) was one of the most memorable of what felt like the longest bathroom renovation ever! While we wanted the room to be beautiful, we also dedicated a significant amount of time deciding the layout. We finally decided that by relocating closets in the 2 adjoining bedrooms, we could expand the footprint of the room and add a separate walk-in-shower for a more luxurious look. We have now been enjoying our new bathroom for several months and are very proud of the end result. In hindsight, there are a few things that I would do differently, but overall I am thrilled with our first DIY bathroom renovation.
- My makeover advice::
- My best advice is to be realistic about your timeline and accept help from others. My father-in-law carried us through many aspects of the renovation. I am confident that we would still not have a completed bathroom if it weren't for the many hours he dedicated to our project. My parents also logged a lot of hours offering their assistance and moral support!
- What I love most about my new space::
- Our new bathroom is the first completed room of an ongoing whole house renovation. At this point, it is our escape! We just love it.
