I've professed my love of before and after pictures many times. So you can imagine my delight when I happened upon these images from blogger Jason Wong. And the most exciting part? It's two projects in one! In this set of photos, we have his bedside table rehab. After the jump, see the coordinating lamps!

Isn't it amazing what paint can do? The transformation of the tables from drab brown to dramatic black and white is inspiring! Jason similarly modernized the lamp by painting over the dated blue with a more modern red. Adding the dark gray lampshade brought all of the pieces together.
Over at his blog, Retrograde, Jason takes us along as he reinvigorates vintage pieces. He also shows off a few of his home redesign projects, in which he helps clients reimagine their spaces. This table and lamp combo is now living happily in the Oakland bedroom of one of his clients.

Although those nightstands look great now, they were hardly drab before - they just needed some TLC.
But that lamp is a great result - I wonder what he used to clean up the pitted brasswork?
fantastic. I think the after night stands are very chic.
I love the transformation of the nightstands. But the lamps need a bit more work. I'm not sure that shade is the right choice, the proportions are kinda wonky.
I agree that I liked the "before" table just fine... but the "after" table amazes me with the shine on the top. How many coats of whatever were used to achieve that? Nice work!
Hi everyone--Jason here from Retrograde. I swear by Rustoleum, as well as a good sanding, priming, and fine-gauge steel wool. I'm just afraid of what it's all doing to my lungs, even while wearing a mask...
@Comicgeek, my client was (and still is) on a tight budget so my selection of shades was limited. But I'm always on the lookout for something else since this project is still in progress. Let me know if you have any suggestions!
Jason--
Try the shades by Fenchel - They do custom for not a whole lotta money...
...a black hardback drum shade lined w/ gold would be perfect:

@bepsf, I *totally* wanted to do a black and gold shade, but my client works in sports media and we both thought an orange lamp w/black shade might evoke the SF Giants! (And, um, this place is in Oakland..!)
I'll post photos of the loft when it's finished--there are other softer elements in there that might go better with gray shades.
Thanks for the link--I'm going to foward it to another client right away!
Wow, the tables are amazing after. Nice job!
It's almost the most perfect thing I've ever seen.
I love the "after" tables. The legs on them now look integrated into the whole piece. The "Before" legs look like some weird stand that doesn't fit the tables.
Love the lamp, but the shade should be glossy.
Ironsides, you can make your own custom shade.
