- My room makeover::
- My style has always been a kind of "comfortable cabinet of curiosities"; I love Victorian, but comfort is key. The hub of our home is the living room, so that's where I've focused. When we moved in a year ago, it was a blank (white) canvas, so we started by painting. I already had the garnet couch and the pelvic-bone loveseat, and I picked out the wingback chairs when we moved (all Craigslist!). We needed side tables, so I hit Craigslist again for tables with character (one has gargoyle faces, the other has claw feet.) A random Craigslist search for "Victorian" turned up the purple couch that fits the bay like a glove. I regularly search for words like "tufted," and "claw." The art is my own or from Etsy. The curtains were Ikea, and the stained glass lamps were Goodwill and ebay luck. The most recent is the fireplace. We realized we couldn't afford to put in a gas unit, so I researched online and came up with gel fuel. I still work on this room nearly constantly, adding little details.
- My makeover advice::
- Craigslist can be your best friend! There are so many amazing things I never would have thought of that I stumble across on Craigslist that help make a space feel special.
Also, take a "before" picture. You never know when it might come in handy! I don't have any pictures from before we painted the walls; when we moved in, they were actually white.
- What I love most about my new space::
- Feeling like I have a room that reflects who I am, where my friends can all gather comfortably and hang out or work on projects.
