Studio 'g' is one of our favorite reads in the garden blogosphere. Rochelle Greayer picks up on the most interesting ideas and runs with them, envisioning outdoor Edens that are accessible for the non-professional. Once in a while she features a great DIY project, too, like this transformation of two lackluster chairs into a garden bench...

Look how gorgeous! The two black pleather office chairs pictured at the top of the post look pretty sad to us, but graphic designer Maria Ahlbrandt managed to spot their potential. She removed the seats, spray-painted the bases silver, and affixed some lovely planks to form the seat and back.
Outdoor furniture can be quite expensive, but creative upcycling solutions make a garden feel personal and homey. Studio 'g' is a great spot to peruse for ideas if you're looking to cultivate a warm and stylish outdoor space.

White Enamel Flatwa...
I loved the idea. It looks great...
Awesome idea!
I saw this a while ago on another site, and quite a few people mentioned that those chair bases aren't intended for outdoor use and will probably rust through.
Still, a very cool idea and design.
i think this is a cool idea & looks great! i like it even more considering it kept the chairs out of a landfill. they were pretty awful. maybe (hopefully) they were painted with rust inhibiting paint?
It looks great, I love it.
excellent
brilliant!
What if you used rust-proof paint? I would think they would be no more likely to rust than anything else. I think it's beautiful. I wish I would have seen this before I bought patio furniture....
I clicked to see the before and after with very low hope of a really inspiring transformation. I was VERY pleasantly surprised! I wish I could use this idea, but I live at the beach and those chairs would last about 10 minutes before they rusted!
That was a nice little surprise!
Anyone know the brand of spray paint used? At least from a distance, it actually looks metallic.
I'm a little concerned about the rust issue too, but have to applaud this DIY. It looks great.
If you're really that worried about rust you could have them powder coated, or keep them out of the rain.
My aunt just did this at their cottage. Super clever!
Rustoleum paint. It's super fab.
