- My room makeover::
- Our kitchen is sort of a one-sided galley kitchen with a slight "L" shape. Originally it had minimal light and whenever more than one person was in the space it was claustrophobia inducing. With those challenges in mind my husband and I set out to build a kitchen that felt: light, large yet cozy, more functional than our current set-up, slightly like an old London Tube station from the 40s (I love the tile work). We also wanted the kitchen to have a custom/higher end feel and we did a few DIYs to help with that including frames along the sides of the cabinets and custom created toe-kicks.

- My makeover advice::
- Our biggest learnings were:
bright colors are key to making a space feel bigger
Don't paint your own cabinet doors unless you have access to a spray painter and are also going to carefully seal them. Buy new ones instead.
Think about those one or two things are critical for the function of your space and splurge on those items. For me the critical item was our awesome Bosch slide-in stove.
Little changes can have a huge impact. Our space feels so functional and large with redoing the entire layout.
- What I love most about my new space::
- Our space has a fantastic light and bright feel. It means my husband and I can both be in the kitchen without stepping on each other's toes. Cooking has become a joy again for me and having the slide-in stove is a huge part of that. At the end of they day though, it is the backsplash tile that makes me smile everyday. I love the subtle watercolor effect and the high-end look, especially next to the custom frames we added on the visible sides of the cabinets.
