- My room makeover::
- I bought an older Florida courtyard home. I decided to start with the bedroom so one room would reflect my style. I had been following blog written by Autumn Clemons. Autumn revealed a room I loved and I emailed her about working together. Autumn pinned design options to a Pinterest board and then she and I put together a plan. From start to finish, it took a little over a year to complete. I encountered some unexpected home repairs that ate up my budget. While not ideal, this worked to my advantage. I purchased items as they went on sale or found alternate sources to save money. The cost for the make-over was approximately $4,000. Room elements were purchased at Wisteria, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Home Decorators, and Target. The biggest splurges were the Thom Filicia artwork and custom drapery panels and euro shams from Martha and Ash.
- My makeover advice::
- I would encourage people to not fear asking for help. Working with a designer is a luxury, but in our case, it helped us save money that more than off-set the cost. In a previous home, I found myself wasting time and money on pieces that didn't work or I grew unhappy with after a short period of time. Working with a designer and developing a plan reassured that each piece and purchase had purpose.
I'd also encourage people to not rush into purchasing every item they need at once for the sake of getting done quickly. In our case, we were forced to wait, but this led to significant savings by taking advantage of sales as they came up.
- What I love most about my new space::
- We love that it feels like us. Our room is peaceful and relaxing and is a beautiful space to be in. If you ask my partner, he'd also share that he loves having a new smart TV :)
