- My room makeover::
- 2.5 years ago we bought our first home a fixer upper and a foreclosure. We had grand ideas for this awesome lot and we were determined to keep it all DIY and budget friendly. This portion of the house was built in 1805 in Maine and we wanted to bring some of the old charm out of the house and open up the living space along with making it slightly bohemian/eclectic/ modern. The biggest project was exposing the beautiful beams and getting rid of the horse hair insulation on the exterior walls. People love the fact that the bottom cabinets are made from plywood and the hold tongue and groove walling that was previously in the kitchen. Nothing like white paint!
- My makeover advice::
- Don't feel the pressure to get it all done at once if you are doing it your self. Stages work fine, and it builds your relationship! We are very budget conscious and have stuck to it! Craigslist/ the local dump and yard sales can be your best friend if you are patient and persistent.
- What I love most about my new space::
- The open floor plan. I love seeing our kids run around (8 months old and 2 years old). I love the ability of the room, a play space (a secret play station we made under the stairs), cooking and listening to music all in the space. We still need to work on cabinets in the kitchen along with putting up the railings on the stairs, but visually we love the open stairs.
