- My room makeover::
- While the old living room was ok on paper, in reality no one wanted to spend time there. It only seated two people because the scale of the furniture was so off for our small apartment, and it had no personality besides "Ikea." Personally, my taste skews more towards Mid Century modern, but my budget was relatively small. While I would have loved to deck the room out in all-vintage Bassett and Paul McCobb, I ended up with mostly a mix of Wayfair, Ikea, Target, and HomeGoods, as well as prints and throw pillows from Society6 and knickknacks and books my roommate and I have collected over the years. In total, the room cost around $1200 for all of the furniture, rugs, and new decor. I think it's a great improvement, and now I can seat seven people for a tapas party or get-together!
- My makeover advice::
- If you're buying online, read all of the reviews you can find of the furniture you're considering. Those pictures can be deceiving! And sometimes you can find the perfect thing in the most unlikely of places. My red melamine tray was hidden away on the bottom shelf of the party section at Target for $12, and the side table came from the bathroom section of HomeGoods even though it's obviously not a table for a bathroom.
- What I love most about my new space::
- That it feels comfortable and welcoming-and the splash of color in my barstools and accessories!
