- My room makeover::
- Our kitchen was so sad when we moved into our 1920's semi. The tile was gross and there was almost zero cupboard and counter space. At one point, we bought a dishwasher to install and realized that we had to remove our only drawers to install it! We literally didn't even have space for cutlery. The weirdest thing about the kitchen was that an addition was added to the house but the previous owners never removed the window. This meant that there was a window looking into the family room! Over the next couple of years, we slowly replaced appliances and then we installed Marmoleum flooring and eventually removed, framed and drywalled over the window. When we had saved enough money, we spent about 30 hours carefully planning our Ikea kitchen to maximize storage and counter space. We also moved the door to the basement from the kitchen to the dining room in order to give us space for a pantry. Our kitchen is still tiny but now it's cozy and beautiful and it feels like us!
- My makeover advice::
- Don't start a DIY kitchen reno when you're 6 months pregnant and have gestational diabetes! Just don't do it!
Our renovation came at the worst time and it certainly tested our sanity at times but we love the finished product. I'm glad we splurged materials for the counter, floors and backsplash. A few splurges made the project feel more expensive!
- What I love most about my new space::
- I love the lighting inside and under the cabinets as well as the picture ledge, which displays our daughter's artwork. I love that the room feels classic and neutral but still a little bit different!
Also, the wine storage! That definitely puts a smile on my face!
