Of the many Before and Afters we have featured, this one may take the prize for the biggest blindside, meaning when you click through, you will in no way have figured out what was coming and the 'After' photo just may knock you flat. While you can sometimes predict how a thrift store dresser or end table will be saved and transformed, just try it with this box spring. You'll be wrong. Trust us. Just go look.
We told you! When Linn from The Home Project described this to us in a brief e-mail, we were sort of scratching our heads. That quickly morphed into shaking our heads (and probably whistling) in admiration.
After failing to find any takers for their old box spring on craigslist, she and her husband began to break it down for a trip to the dump. But they were amazed by the sheer amount of wood contained inside--clean, unpainted, admittedly-low-grade-but-still-useful wood. They challenged each other to find a use for it, and after a night of brainstorming came up with this great little patio set. Besides the wooden dowels holding it all together, the only wood they used came from the box spring.
Waiting around for inspiration to hit is all fine and well, but if you challenge yourself and work with what you have, you just may hit on something brilliant. Well done, Linn!

Shaw's Original Fir...
That's cool, but it's basically taking the wood and building something new out of it, like salvaging wood from any place and building from scratch.
COOL.
Adorable! If I could, I'd put it under a tree and use it as a writing desk.
Seriously impressive.
Nice in a way, I guess, but you'd have to pay me to take those into my home.
Clever; wasn't there enough for two chairs? As for 'before', now I'm thinking verticle planter or divider of some kind. Wonder how hard it was to tear that down to just the wood?
AT needs a FB style like button. Or would the server crash b/c of the amount of readers. Because you just want a Happy Face emoticon to click on. Bravo!
Hi guys, this is Linn from The Home Project. I'm just delighted by these sweet comments! Thanks! I'm so happy myself with the way our little table and chair came out, and we're getting a lot of use out of it already. And rmbnn: there was definitely not enough wood for two chairs and a table. After we were done with the table and chair I think there were two or three broken wood pieces left, so we definitely used it all up!
There's perfectly good wood in a boxspring. I encourage people to salvage it, and if you're not going to use it yourself, I'm sure you can find someone who will.
I am impressed! I'm a big fan of repurposing and you guys did super....A+
Great idea!
Reminds me I had a friend who once deconstructed a box spring, and reused the springs to make party decorations with a figure popping up, jack-in-the-box style. Great reuse of materials, and The Home Project has completed and blogged lots of other interesting projects.
i liked the before better. Haha jk. this is beautiful.
Wow!
Nice work!
