Bruno and Alicia took home this worn-out tricycle that was a freebie at a local garage sale and transformed it into something wonderful for their daughter. Jump below to see how spray paint and some decals can turn trash to treasure.

The couple used three cans of spray paint and custom decals they created themselves, along with a new set of wheels to create this beauty. Since the makeover, strangers have asked where they purchased such a cute tricycle! Bruno and Alicia aren't taking orders yet, but we'll let you know if they do! To check out a video of the transformation run over to Curbly.

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
love it!
Awesome! And that's a fairly tasteful application of pink and purple, as well. Despite my best efforts, my almost 3 year old daughter now emphatically claims those as her two favorite colors, so I'm glad to see the combination done in a non-insipid way--good inspiration!
Cute, but there was nothing wrong with the "before." I'd hardly call it trash.
Great idea!
Does anyone know where can purchase replacement wheels for trikes and ride on toys? I have that ubiquitous Step Two Push Around Buggy and my baby loves it but the blue plastic wheels are SO loud. I'd love to find some rubberized wheels but have no idea where to order small wheels like that.
Mhartman, can you paint them with rubberizing paint like plasti-dip?
Nice makeover but I don't see why everything has to be pink and purple for girls. What is wrong with a girl riding a red and blue bike? .
Maybe the little girl WANTED a pink and purple bike.
this is fabulous!
Cute, but why would one need to "girly up" a tricycle? It was perfectly fine the way it was.
very cute!
The 'after' is cute. The 'before' was still in 3x better condition than the one I picked up for my nephew last week. Nowhere near 'worn out', come on.
Wow... the critics! Ya know, some couples connect through doing projects together. The before might be perfectly functional, but there is nothing wrong with recreating it for your little girl. Fun project, awesome results, very happy daughter. Sounds like a win to me!
very cute! nice improvement from the ugly color combo and fading of the before. I like to customize things like this so I can really appreciate the work they put into it.
Both were nice but maybe the little girl WANTED the girly bike and it's cute as a button in the after. Nicely done.
I absolutely adore the new color scheme but hate that they made their daughter's name so prominent. Parents, PLEASE do not ever put your child's name on their toys/clothing! Even the most vigilant parent can accidentally lose attention while their child is playing outside and having toys/clothing with the child's name visible makes them even more vulnerable to predators. It's a super cute bike but please save the personalization for things you keep inside your home!
@cozycrookedcottage
Should parents also not call their children by name when in public?
WOW - It's a Kettler tricycle and brand new they're pretty expensive as far as tricycles go because they are super durable and have high quality tires; hence why there was nothing wrong with the "before" trike. As a freebie, that tricycle is a very lucky find! Totally worth restoring, and Kettler's CS is very good about sending out replacement parts. I like that they customized the color for their daughter. Nice job!
Great job, it looks fab.
Shiny! I love that a few coats of paint have taken something faded and old (but in good condition) and made it look new again. The custom decals are a really cute idea too.
Normally I don't like girl-pink, but they've picked really nice shades for both the pink and purple. It looks great!
Excellent job - and so well done, looks store bought!
Anyone harping on about the colour choices, and trotting out the tired "down with pink" line has probably never met a three year old girl. All the three year old girls I've met have been very clear about their favourite colours, and yes it's usually pink or purple. If they had painted this tricycle blue for a little boy, nobody would bat an eyelash, not even about the merit of doing it up in the first place.
You seem to forget that you spend five minutes looking at this, while the little girl will spend five years actually using it.
If I had this tricycle, I too would want to do it up. Anything that has turned from red to brown needs to be changed!
@cozycrookedcottage I'm sorry, but that is so overdramatic...
I just watched the video on Curbly.... pink and purple ARE her favourite colours *shakes head*
Oh, that´s something old from summer 2011. I have seen this before. But this is still a very good project and a good reminder. So thanks for posting it again. I´ve got 3 old bicycles from my cousin in the garage that I want to transform from actually ugly to something my girls like as good as new or even better. Maybe they can paint some fingerprint flowers on it or add some stinkers. The first pre-bicycle vehicles of my daughters, like tricycle and a balance bicycle (without pedals) where brand-new and bought by the grandparents. But I don´t want to spend more or less 200€ for a new bike.
Lol - sorry, of course I meant some stickers........:) *rofl*
Some parents enjoy making special things for their children. It's not the thing but the memory that gets cherished. My 2 year old daughter loves the things I make special for her. And yeah, I'm a lawyer and a mom. I make time on weekends and in the middle of the night, that's where time comes from. The energy to do so comes from love.
My son has that bike- he calls it the 'rainbow' bike since it has a few colors. It is his favorite! I like the pink for a girl though.
Very cute!
I have three girls (two of whom are 3) and they love all colors. They would have been delighted to have a bike and would not have requested that it be turned into a pink-mobile. The pink craze for girls is due to marketing. Look around a modern toy store and it is hard to find anything for girls that isn't pink. (When was the last time you saw a doll stroller in a "boy" color?) Even toys that appeal to both boys and girls are often gendered to encourage more consumption.
My point is not that this project is bad (in fact, I think the parent did an amazing job sprucing it up) but more that we need to stop pidgeon-holing our children by taking toys (and nurserys for that matter) and gendering them. After all, a kid who hasn't been repeatedly told which color family he belongs to would love a bike no matter what shade it is.
great job!
My parents did the exact same project. They help out with a local bicycle recycle and one of these tricycles came in. They scooped it up and redid it for my niece last Christmas. She loves it!
freakin awesome!
