Incorporating a flat screen TV into this built in floor-to-ceiling bookcase was a challenge for us on a recent project - the client wanted the TV to stay on that wall, but we weren't thrilled by the way it had been jammed in there originally. Click below the jump to see what we did.
The first thing we did was carve out more space for the TV by removing some shelves, making the entire wall feel less crammed (there are plans to move the DVD player to another wall but some wiring needs to be done first.) When our carpenter couldn't get an exact stain match to cover the places shelves had been we decided to simply paint the entire niche deep blue - and actually think it looks better than if we had left it natural. We then rearranged the books by the always controversial color system - while we're not always big fans of it we think it's a great way to bring visual interested into a space like this where there's not much room for art (the other walls of the room are dominated by large windows.)
What do you think? Is putting a TV into a bookshelf a natural blending of entertainment options? Or just a totally blasphemous thing to do?
