A couple of months ago, Marie Nichols packed up her life and left her job at Ideal Home magazine in London to follow her dreams. Now living in Sydney and working as a freelance stylist, Marie is currently decorating her rental property and overcoming lots of challenges along the way. Marie has kindly shared her bedroom makeover with us, find out the details below the jump.
How would you define your style? I don’t know if I have a specific style, I love so many different styles. However I do love colour and pattern so fabrics and wallpapers tend to feature largely in my home both here in Sydney and even more so in the UK.
What is your inspiration for your bedroom? Having arrived in Sydney with only a suitcase to my name the inspiration was what was in the case! A silk scarf (which I turned into a cushion) and my favorite coral heels and nail polish!
What is your favorite element of your bedroom? I love the silk scarf cushion, I’m now constantly scouring salvo stores for more to add to my collection
What is the biggest challenge of your bedroom? Biggest challenge (other than a tiny budget) was moving from the home I own in the UK, where I could do whatever I like, to a rented property here in Sydney. I had to re-address the way I would normally decorate. So rather than colour and pattern on walls I broke my lifetime rule of only white bed linen, and went for pattern, and painted the furniture to get my colour hit.
What was is your proudest DIY? In this room it was painting the furniture, it transformed it from basic cheap Ikea, to giving it a bit of style.
The next project is the living room. Again started as a empty space, with no furniture, and is mid way through its transformation. Colour is key, my scheme is Teals and yellows, so watch this space!
