We love a good refinish, repurpose, or reinvention. This nightstand project is a gorgeous example of a finely crafted refinishing that we wish we had the artistic inclination to be able to do!
Design*Sponge is currently having their final call for submissions of Before & After projects for their first book. In the mix is this fantastic refinish of an antique nightstand by woodworker Will Means. Take a look for a little more detail on how he accomplished this gorgeous octopus graphic through stain--as well as many other inspiring DIYs!

WOW!
That's just gorgeous!!!
I was kind of dreading what I'd see, but this is really cool and unique.
I am so glad this turned out cool. I thought it was going to be some awful pink spray paint mess. I am so jealous..how did he get that gloss so perfect. Well done!!!
Really good, even though I would have left it all black (but that is just me). Wonderful finish and it enhances the beautiful lines of the nightstand. I have some stripped wood pieces and never dared to paint them, because I feared the colour would clash with the original style of the furniture. Encouraging, but I doubt I would ever be able to get the finish that impeccable.
Fierce! I love it.
WOW is right
I have become so jaded and thought not another blue or white painted re do. This is down right beautiful.
Nummy. Makes me want to reach into the photo and rest an old volume of Jules Verne on top....
Agreed.. that turned out awesome!

Looks great! I love the darker-stained wood showing through. What a fun little project.
