I spotted these gorgeously designed stools by Belgian designer Kaspar Hamacher on Dezeen. The artist creates the stools by burning out sections of logs to create organic legs; the name Ausgebrannt is German for "burn out." I love the play of contrast and texture: smooth, light, raw verses charred, dark, chemically changed.

Shaw's Original Fir...
These look great, in a very dramatic way, but how do they get rid of the scorched smell?
I am going to put a couple of these in my backyard garden. Will file down the charred area and belt sand the rest (and maybe the charred area). Beautiful and won't cost me a penny!
Don't you think the burnt area is what makes it so beautiful?!
unless they are sealed somehow, I imagine the cats would rub up against these and drag soot everywhere.
I'm sure they are sealed somehow. They are exquisite!!!
I totaly dig this. Woodsy, but without that duck-wallpaper-cabin feel.
These are really cool.
I wonder how they get them so they're not wobbly. Or maybe you just accept that they will be a little bit.
Not very eco-friendly in my opinion. Why throw all that carbon in the air to make an uncomfortable stool. Handsaw the wood and you could make a lot more than one stool with those logs.
wow! these are gorgeous. love the contrast of beautiful grain with the scorched wood.
Those look awesome. And very unstable for several reasons.
Ausgebrannt is actually German for "burnt out"
So hot!
Not really sure......
There is an extremely subtle sadistic undertone to this...
Aesthetically pleasing... but somewhat conceptually disturbing.
