If you love Thonet (and Thonet-style) bentwood chairs but cannot afford a matching set, consider adopting a single spare bentwood chair. Whether you add it to a mismatched set of dining chairs or use it as a bedside table, you can't go wrong with a bentwood chair. The sinewy curved lines are so classically beautiful--and so well made.
We've talked about the Thonet chairs before, Here and here.
Here are some examples of how to use spare or odd Thonet chairs in any room.
• 1 San Francisco Girl By The Bay. Here, two Thonet chairs flank the bed.
• 2 Loft Life. Here a spare bentwood chair serves as a desk chair.
• 3 Katy Elliott. Designer Tom Scheerer uses a bentwood chair as a bedside table.
• 4 House Beautiful. OK, so this isn't a chair but I couldn't resist another gem from designer Tom Scheerer, who pairs a willowy, sinewy bench with the austere lines of a steel four poster bed.
• 5 Here a spare Thonet chair serves as part of a mix and match set of dining room chairs. Houzz.

The n4 is so nice!!! I love it!!!
I found a brown one put out with the garbage on my street a few months ago. Now it lives in my bedroom, and I love it! I mean, I'm sure it's a knockoff, but it's in great condition. Provides a nice perch for my humidifier in these winter months.
I live near a university, and when we first moved here the school's surplus store used to have Thonet chairs for $10 a piece. I couldn't believe it! Needless to say, I have a set of 6 around my dining room table.
Just last week AT had a french kitchen with Thonet chairs and loveseat around the table:

can't go wrong with the classics.
Classics, for sure. I love the one in #4 too.
#3 isn't using it as a bedside table... it's just a spare chair in the bedroom. All the way in the corner.
The lamp in picture 3 is hilarious!
I too love a Thonet chair, and that bentwood sofa is to die for.
Hey - that's my yellow kitchen!
I love Thonet chairs. I found the one shown at a thrift store and refinished it, though I could never verify it was an authentic Thonet, it's very old though, and is possibly a Fischel or a Kohn.
I posted before pics here: http://www.theredjet.net/2009/05/bentwood-chair-thonet-fischel.html
