Note: my taste runs minimal here and this category changes SLOWLY. Since I last updated this list, only a few newcomers have made it on, and my favorite continues to be the Seca Personal at the top of the list. I've included a couple of good online sources and links to all past posts. Please jump in with additions and subtractions.

• Seca 803 Personal Digital Scale, $60. White, spartan and affordable, this is my personal fave, and the one we have in our home.

• Seca 760 mechanical scale, $120. It's not tiny, but, in a range of bright colors, you might want to make it the focal point of the room.

• Health-o-Meter Analog Bathroom Scale, $64. Classic shape and big, easy to read dial make this a great low-tech choice.

• Alessi Bathroom Scale by Stefano Giovannoni type, $170. Super svelte at only 1.5" thick. Made in 18/10 stainless steel mirror polished and thermoplastic resin. LED display.

• The Detecto 437 eye-level physician scale is tall but narrow at 10.5" wide, $209

• The GS-1 Siltec digital scale might be the closest thing to invisible you can get: the platform is made of tempered glass. $80.

• Soehnle 63538 Slim Design Quattrotronic Scale

While I'm not a big fan of Sharper Image, my parents had a scale from there that was sleek and simple. I got it for myself and five years later, it's still working its (sometimes not so) magic. Of course, now I can't find it on their site, but it looked quite a bit like the Soehnle, but all clear glass.
Never understood the need for a scale at home - the Doctor has one, and the gym too if you must...
Standing naked in front of a full-length mirror is far more telling.
But it gets you kicked out of Crate & Barrel.
um.........these don't look any different than scales from every other year!
actually, how your clothes fit (or don't) is more telling that a scale.
If anyone's in the LA area, I have a Detecto 437 for sale. $100 used with a few scratches at the base. We had to close our women's gym and have to sell it.
LOL @ Crate & Barrel comment.
one that lies and is always five pounds less!
Horrible scale. Bought the 2009 Seca Personal Digital Scale several months ago and it just decided to stop working. Somehow I doubt this year's model works any better.
They're ugly and take up lots of room, but those physician-type scales (they come in mechanical, digital or sliding weights) come in really, really handy for weighing your travel bags before heading to the airport. Especially these days. My parents swear by theirs.
