As you may have picked up from our online resources post, laundry and other laundry-related chores don’t exactly get us excited to play with detergent and fold things. In fact, of all things fun to read in book form, laundry tips don’t top the list—but we think you’ll want to read these books for laundry tips and tricks.
Full disclosure—we haven’t read any of these books yet. But some healthy Amazon reviews gives us confidence in suggesting these books as resources to check out if you’re interested in expanding and improving your laundry skills (and attitude). And while it may seem odd to resort to physical pages when there are so many apps for your iPhone and iPad, think of this way: would you rather accidentally drop a book into your washer or your beloved technology? Old-fashioned reading does have its advantages...
1) Betty's Book of Laundry Secrets by Betty Faust and Maria Rodale
2) Laundry: The Home Comforts Book of Caring for Clothes and Linens by Cheryl Mendelson
3) Laundry: The Spirit of Keeping Home by Monica Nassif and Patrick Fox
4) The Royal Guide to Spot and Stain Removal by Linda Cobb
5) Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook: The Essential Guide to Caring for Everything in Your Home by Martha Stewart
What are your favorite books (Kindle versions count, too!) for gaining laundry advice—or is this a type of resource you'd never go to for laundry tips?

I clicked through from my RSS feeds just to make sure Cheryl Mendelson got a nod.
Also, her original book Home Comforts (a more general book about the entire household) is awesome.
Those Shout Color catcher sheets have changed my life. I got them last month and for the first time in 10 years I am caught up on my laundry. No more sorting by color.

I have Home Comforts by Cheryl Mendelson, though I didn't realize she had another book just on laundry.
I like knowing how I *should* do it before deciding how I am *actually* going to do it.
I second JFitzpatrick's Cheryl Mendelson nod! "Laundry" is basically an excerpt from "Home Comforts," a book I turn to whenever I have a question about how to take care of my home!
There are books. About. Doing. Laundry. Um.
I swear that is my cat.
Mine too. Looks just like my cat Ginger.
i used to dread doing laundry (even though i'm one of those enviable people with my own washer & dryer). told a friend that one day & she said she absolutely LOVES to do laundry. 'it's not really that much work, and when you're done, you can really feel like you accomplished something.' changed my life in relation to dirty clothes!
Thank goodness other people know about Cheryl Mendelson! UK readers (like me) should know that there's a slightly adapted UK version of Home Comforts. It's such a great book - apart from the extensive laundry advice there's all that legal information about insurance etc. It really tells you almost everything you need to know about running a home. (I've never managed to figure out her method of putting a duvet in its cover, though.
Ditto Home Comforts by Cheryl Mendelson. It goes through the science of stains and cleaning, so you know what to treat with which and why and when.
adding to the cheryl mendelson love. i have two copies of Home Comforts -- thought i'd lost my first during a move, found it later. i also have martha's book, but it doesn't come close to cheryl's.
Do any of these books have instructions for cat laundering? They wash OK, but don't spin so well!!! LOL
