Shopping for furniture can easily get overwhelming as the costs start to add up, but many of the furniture styles found in expensive stores can also be found in more affordable stores if you are willing to search. I found my dream sofa (the royal blue sofa in the main image) at Pampa Furniture.

Shaw's Original Fir...
If you're a patient buyer, you can scoop up a sofa or other piece of furniture you've fallen in love with at the expensive stores by waiting for a sale. End of season furniture clearances and sales at most furniture retailers are typically scheduled between May and September.
I picked up the sofa that my husband and I currently have from a dumpster. It was the end of the academic year in a college town, and lots of students just pitched what they couldn't sell, donate, or take with them.
It looks so similar to the first photo, it's uncanny. Total cost? My one friend's mild annoyance (had to borrow her pickup truck to haul it!).
If anyone has experience with the Silhouette from C&B I'd love to hear it. Have been considering it and there is only one review on the website. Thank you!
Don't forget the Corona collection from Macys. The sofa is currently on sale for $699.

This is such a limited list...
For some other ideas, Macy's is having a sale and has some great pieces. Their "zen" sofa is almost identical to "the nines" but is only $600 and the velvet "Chloe" sofa is awesome if that is your bag. And they have a leather chesterfield on sale right now for $2000 flat. Also, Room & Board's "Brooks" sofa is only $899 and their mid-century style "Murray" is only $999 for a 72" and $1099 for an 81" and comes in nice fabrics.
We bought the two-cushion Murray sofa from Room & Board for $999 - http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/product/detail.do?productGroup=3301&catalog=filter&menuCatalog=room&menuSubcategory=201198
It looks almost exactly like their higher-priced Jasper sofa and is so beautiful and comfortable!
@rahskir - I have the Zen, and I love it. Yes, it's not the greatest construction/materials, but it's worn well to date, and is very comfortable. I'm on the short side, and it's low enough that my feet can finally touch the ground! It's also padded and the arms are just right for propping up for extended book reading:)
Rahskir- You mentioned my dream sofa (Murray from Room and Board), and the one I could afford with a store credit card (Chloe from Macy's). I just ordered it in ivory this past weekend and learned it's on backorder..must be popular!
I owned The Nines sofa and we HATED it. The seat starts to sink in very quickly and the wood bar that goes along the front can be felt if you sit any other way than straight up with feet flat on the ground. It's shallow and not a lounge-y place to enjoy a movie. I've seen a lot of these returned and resold at the outlet and other consignment places in the SF area.
I love the Corona couch. Really comfortable, really durable. We've had it for a little more than a year and it's really great.
Bought my couch + matching loveseat (got the PAIR for under $1,100 as they were floor models, but in perfect condition) from Scandinavian Designs while living in Denver last summer. Great couches, seriously great deal. Mine are a plain dark gray, I think they only make them in a tweed-looking dealie now, but still very cool nonetheless. $699 for the large sofa!! $999 for an all-leather version. I can't find the loveseat on the site for some reason. One major drawback, I think you have to buy from one of the stores themselves (i.e., no online purchasing) and they're located in CO, CA and NV only at current time. This was such a fantastic store and I miss it being back on the East Coast!

Has any tried out the Luna Sofa? I like the clean lines of the Luna and it looks comfy as well.
I love your dream sofa too. And the price.
We have the Essex sofa in paisley (the print show). We LOVE the fabric and it has been very popular with our friends. It's a great size and made of eco-friendly materials!
It was our first grown-up piece of furniture.
Bestleeha, can you comment on how your Essex sofa has stood up to daily use? I am thinking of ordering one for myself, but my local West Elm store does not have the model and I am nervous about making the purchase without testing the sofa out. My current "budget" sofa has about kicked it after 2 years and I do not want to repeat the mistake.
I just bought the Silhouette Sofa from the C&B Outlet for, wait for it... $274!!! I was SO excited by it! It's in the chartreuse color and I couldn't be happier!
