It's really hot in NYC and it's only June, so it's time to dig into electric fans of all shapes and sizes for relief. In addition to cooling, physical fans offer tremendous energy savings when used to replace or augment your AC, a great design detail and help year round by moving around both cool and warm air (here's a tip for helping warm a room in the winter). You can read here all about ceiling fans before browsing below. Enjoy and please add any recommendations or tips that you have below.

Good selection I have used several of these in design projects before... M. Izzo :-)
But you aren't showing any of the ones with fake wicker on them and light kits underneath with those tulip shaped glass shades!
;^) and I thank you for that.
The Lowes one is too uncomfortably close to the ones I mentioned though. 8^p
I'm liking the Vent-Bettina and old Havana style, the Artemis and Propeller fans the most, and that last one, the "BLOW" looks intriguing.
home depot actually has a few new modern styles that are not 1990's styled. and they are decently priced too! for those of us who may not be able to get the pretty ones listed above that it :)
We have the ball fan from Modern Fan and I love it. Moves a lot of air and is quiet.
My daughter has the Westinghouse industrial fan. It moves a lot of air too but the blades tend to be noisy cutting through the air (no rattle, just the sound of rushing air). I think there was some issue too of cutting the downrods to work with an 8' ceiling. They are made for higher ceilings.
Lowe's has a nice one that we've used in several rooms:

Oops, link didn't work. This is the fan if you are interested in looking for it at Lowe's:

Artemis by Minka Aire, is definitely my all time favorite fan. It's got grace, style, individuality and a huge wing span which means big wind. Helps us survive the city heat without a/c! And for those who install fans themselves, Minka Aire has definitely simplified the process so installation is not as much of a headache.

We also have Minka Aire's Concept Fan - with modern style and a modest profile....

Spanky, I've got the aero ceiling fan too, but it's too noisy for me. makes a buzzing/ringing sound that's supposed to go away after a week of use, but didn't for us. Harbor Breeze refunded our money and let us keep the fan, which makes me think they've dealt with this noise issue in the past.
I know that this is a design site, but it would be help to include a standard measurement of how much air each fan moves, which enables us to compare their power.
Any word on how long they last? I'm about to replace the fan I bought in 1980 and which works perfectly - if I could buy a second one, I'd never replace it.
I have this Hampton Bay 44 In. Midili Fan from Home Depot and it is amazing.
Great price, fairly easy to install (remote controlled, no pull chains), and spins FAST AND FURIOUS with no noise. Love it love it love it.
I have the Artemis fan in the living room and it is soooo stylish - but the cheap Home Depot one in the bedroom is much better now that I have painted its fake wood blades off-white and put galvanised gutter protectors over its nasty shiny bullet lights. I tell myself it is Steam Punk...
I wonder if anyone here has used reversable ceiling fans at the top of a multistory house for cooling and heating? I have a four-storey browntsone with a central stair case. The hot air travels up to the top in the winter, and I've thought a ceiling fan would help bring the hot air back down (the top floor is just for guests and used maybe four times per year), and would cool things off in the summer.
Any AT readers with experience using this sort of system?
I love the design of the Artemis, but the color makes it look like band-aids. Oh well, it's not like I can afford it, anyway.
the Artemis is simply genius
Just put in a allen + roth 52" Secor Polished Nickel Ceiling Fan from Lowes and love it. Quiet, powerful, not a hint of a wobble -- sleek air-age modern, like the nose cowling of a P-51....
... and it's EnergyStar rated!
