Real Simple partnered up with Bed Bath and Beyond to bring us simplified organizational tools for the closet. We picked out the five we want for sure. But here's the question &mdash what kind of organizational tools do you really need in the closet?
For example, we have shoe racks, but they're annoying to reach and hunt through in the dark. Is an over-the-door shoe organizer better? Take a gander at these, and tell us about your tried-and-trues.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I love the look of those slim hangers, but the flocking always seems to come off on my clothes which makes them less than ideal. That purse hanger on the other hand looks very interesting...
I love the purse one.
Last week, I purchased the real simple 6 shelf sweater organizer. It is awesome because it can hang 6 shelves long, or 3 shelves side by side. I have mine side by side, and they make use of some very strange space in my closet. Love them! Good quality, and a great deal, especially with my 20% coupon.
I have the teal flocked hangers and I think they are fabulous. You can not hang wet or damp clothes on them or the flocking will come off. That said, three times the clothes(because they are so slim), no slippage, and no hanger nipples. I will concede that replacing all my and my husbands hangers was not cheap but my closet looks fabulous.
So the purse organizer looks fabulous - and is something that I haven't seen elsewhere.
The rest of it is just the standard stuff you're used to finding at Target or Walmart or Container Store - just in prettier colors.
But the best part of it all is Real Simple, a magazine that regularly writes about how to repurpose existing things organize your life, is making a line of generic "Stuff".
I need a better way to hang skirts.
Funny, was just browsing the B3 website this morning for real simple gear. The purse organizer looks useful, but everything else looks standard.
BUT, in the latest RS issue, there's an ad for an over-the-door shoe holder that uses the same elastic concept as the purse holder, instead of traditional shoe holder pockets. Couldn't find it on the website. Am I crazy? Has anyone see it in B&M stores?
The shoe organizer uses space better than the usual rectangular design. It all seems a little overpriced, though. I suppose by the time you use the ubiquitous B3 coupon it's not so bad.
Luckily I've got a super large closet with built in shelving for stacking sweaters and pants. I do use the shoe carrier hanging thing in all my closets as it really does work well and allows you to see where your shoes on, keeps 'em dust free, too.
There is a non-flocked version of the slim hanger available - perfect for hanging damp laundry. I got mine from C&B and saw them in BBB. They are great and it's amazing how much more fits into the closet. Only problem is they non-flocked skirt clips (from Target) slide. The flocked clips stay in place though. I do hope they invent a better slim skirt hanger.
I actually bought the shoe/boot organizer a few weeks ago and it's *awesome*.
Seriously.
I got every pair of shoes I own and both pairs of my boots up off the floor. There are stretchy slats along the outside that I got all my flip flops, scarves and other accessories into.
It's worth the money, as long as you have a large closet.
If you don't have a large closet (mine's nearly 10 feet wide), it would take up too much space.
Are there ANY solutions on the market for people who have closets that aren't the standard depth? (no, I'm not going to hang everything on Shaker-style pegs) I'm combining two small square closets, one in the hall and one in the guestroom, then re-dividing them into 2 long rectangles accessible from each side (in the hall, a pantry to support the nearby kitchen; in the guestroom an office alcove & hanging clothes storage). I don't care about 'skinny' hangers, I need them short!
I like the wonder hanger. I also bought it at BBB.
Rucy
Children's hangers?
@dwelement For the flocked slim hangers, the price is spot-on: cheaper than what I paid for similar from fixture-supply company. I would say that if you were going to get them, get them from B3 - great price.
HATE hanger nipples. Seems I am constantly rewashing things to get rid of them. I'm going to have to check out the non-flocked one since I usually hang things when they are still damp so I don't have to iron. Thanks for the info HeyJoanne. And the shoe/boot organizer would be perfect for my teenage daughter's closet. Getting her to actually PUT her shoes & boots IN it is another matter.
I have a very small closet that I share w/ my husband, so these hangers really made a difference! The only other piece I use is the tie hanger, which has my scarf collection on it and I hung it on the inside of the closet door on one of the over the door hooks.
I recently purchased the many styles of their hangers, including the blouse hangers, the slim ones, the slacks one, the belt one and something else. It was a bit pricer but considerings I have about 1/3 of the closet space in my NY apartment than I did in my CHI apartment, it made everything fit. They work really well.
@Taureg, well worth trying out, THANKS!

Extra storage is always a plus, whether you are selling your home or staying put, but if you are indeed planning to sell, maximizing your storage space is essential. Extra storage space helps attract home buyers--and lets you stay organized while the home is still yours.
With the right closet organizer, it is actually possible to double your storage capacity. Luckily, there is a wide variety of closet organizers on the market today. They are available in virtually every style, material, and price range. ...
