As summer starts to draw to a close and evening temperatures begin to drop, a fire pit can help warm up a patio and extend the number of nights spent under a canopy of stars. Fire pits come in all shapes and sizes, from big units for large backyards to little tabletop models for small patios. Check out our list of this year's best fire pits and prepare to light up the night.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I LOVE the globe one. But $1500, geez. It's art I guess so it's worth it provided it's quality-built. Verrry cool though.
The forecast is for 109 degrees today where I live. I can't even think about outdoor firepits.
Not to be cranky at the writer (more honestly cranky at the current weather), but writers are always talking about how it cools down in late August, and I feel like that never actually happens and the weather manages to stay hot and sticky and uncomfortable at least into September?
Global warming perhaps?
maybe in October.
anyone use a hack to utilize those gas/propane turkey fryer setups? I have been looking everywhere for such a thing!
How could you miss this one? Have it and love it:

At least two of the fire pits you show above are designed and made by Rick Wittrig, of Fire Pit Art in Wilson County, TN. I believe you can also buy directly from him. www.firepitart.com The Third Rock fire pit was chosen and installed as the fire pit in the Athletes Olympic Village for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.
Can those smaller ones be used indoors?
And why no concrete fire pits? We have a beautiful one we sell that ships all over the country. Please check it out at http://www.pottedstore.com/pottedstore/potted.cgi?search=action&category=FXR0 That's our fire pit page where you'll also see Modfires which are amazingly beautiful (not cheap) but really should be on this list.
Sorry for the self promotion but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do (and they really are amazing!) Potted
those are really cool fire pits, I found this company in Squamish that did a whole firepit + bench combination that I thought was really neat too.
