Speaking of creative cakes...SueAnn's cake is incredibly cute and has a bit of history, too. She shares details of her classy Cookie Monster party: My son loves books and one of his favorite books is a Cookie Monster book. I came across a photo from 1985 where my Mother had made my younger brother a Cookie Monster cake, and that set the theme in motion. I wanted to make it cute, but not to commercial or cheesy.
Since finances are tight, I made my motto "use what you have" and did just that by hand making the decor and using jars and frames from around my house. I had lots of scrapbook paper in different shades of blue, which really came in handy for the party.
I had co-workers save Starbucks bottles and got the idea for the Cookie Monster cups from the Hostess with the Mostess blog.
I made the cake and cookies from scratch and I think I spent around $50 on the entire party. My son loved it and was pointing at the different decorations and balloons all night. It was the best day!

I hate all things Sesame Street (even did as a kid), but this party is really adorable! Perfect balance of kid-friendly and lovely to look at.
Well done!
Beautiful party! I had a Cookie Monster party when I was three or so and remember a girl trying to claim the googly eyes that my mom had used to decorate the cake. This cake is so much nicer and cuter than I remember mine being, plus no one will fight over the eyes.
I love that cake! Where did you get those straws?
As much as I generally dislike big, theme-y parties for such little kids, I am LOVING that cake!
***LOVE*** the party.
I think it was 1976 or 1977 when I had my Cookie Monster cake.... and right now, I'm wearing my Cookie Monster shirt! http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=9649
Aw, so cute! Well done on the cake, it's amazing! Your kiddo (and HIS kids!) will love seeing the photos of it later on, I'm sure. :)
Great Job! I love your cake =)
Thanks for the nice comments everyone! It was lots of fun! @Strawberry79, I got the straws at my local bakery supply store. They also sell them on Amazon, but I only paid around $5 for mine, they are a lot more expensive on Amazon.

I love there is a limited amount of sweets here! Just a few cookies and cake, not loads of lollipops, and cake pops, and cupcakes, and cake, and a candy buffet......
Such a sweet party. Nice job!
oh god. I would gladly sell my soul for that CAKE!
Thanks!
