Best Kids' Parties: A Black, White & Green Color Scheme

My Party: Keaton (Toronto, Ontario)

For Keaton's 2nd birthday party, we kept the guest list small, but the decorations big! I am currently redecorating Keaton's big boy room in a black, white and green colour scheme, so I thought it would be perfect to use for his party.

What really made the most impact were the large, round, white balloons held down by the spray-painted animals. Keaton is a huge fan of the zoo, so I bought three large plastic animals from the dollar store, spray-painted them black and used them as balloon weights. The two types of streamers we used were probably the easiest crafts I have ever made. The ruffled one above the window was made with a plastic tablecloth and just involved me cutting the tablecloth into strips and pulling at the edges to create that ruffled look. The zig zag streamers hanging from the ceiling were each made with one green piece of paper and some simple cuts with scissors.

For the table tops, I used some artificial turf as table runners and some left over dotted fabric as a tablecloth. For the dessert, we kept it simple with black and white cupcakes, cake balls and cheesecake balls on black and white straws. I also placed some green felt flags in the cupcakes.

We also encouraged our guests to use our Polaroid camera and take a picture of themselves with Keaton. We set up a piece of yarn on the wall with mini clothespins for the guests to attach their photo to it for decoration. We really want to start documenting events with the Polaroid camera and then create a large piece of art in Keaton's room with all of the Polaroids.

And, of course, the birthday boy had to be colour-coordinated in green pants and a black and white checkered button-up! Keaton had an absolutely fabulous time and we all enjoyed the watching him demolish his birthday cupcake and rip into his presents!
