Given we live about 2.5 hours from the closest beach, I knew we'd never be able to have a real beach party. So, I decided to throw "A Retro Day at the Beach" party for my youngest son, Charles. Since his birthday falls during one of the hottest months in Australia, I thought it would be a good opportunity for water fights!
Party planning started with the invites, which were based on a 50s style, including an image of Charles surfing. The sweets table included a water and surfing themed cake, marshmallow ice creams, lifesavers, lollipops propped up in thongs (flip flops) and jelly beans....all in orange, white, yellow and blue colors. Decorations included a beach theme panel along our fence to give us a tropical feeling, leis, banana lounges, retro umbrellas, a surf report and themed beach signs.
Charles wore a surfing singlet and our eldest son wore a lifeguard t-shirt, both in keeping with the theme. We had a ball!
