Sherman Oaks, California
Our daughter loves animals. If they're covered in fur or feathers, she's a fan. So, we decided to celebrate her 2nd birthday at Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark, California.
Once our guests and the birthday girl had donned their cowboy hats and bandannas we were treated to a horse drawn tour of the farm followed by plenty of free time to explore all the other fun things to do such as the petting corral, pony rides and pig races. The hats and bandannas made our guests easy to spot as they scattered and raced from activity to activity.
I was able to keep to a budget by making all the food myself: pigs in a blanket, ham and turkey sliders, fruit kabobs and veggies in a cup. For dessert I made cupcakes and cake pops.
Making the decorations also allowed me to control the color palette and achieve a vintage feel. Each piece inspired the next (the fabric banner, the craft paper cake topper, the chalkboard paint signage, and the jute wrapped number two) which also enabled me to integrate things I already had around the house.
Keeping with the theme, favors consisted of mason jars filled with a mix for "Cowboy Cookies" for each family to take home and make themselves and a bag of craft goodies for the kids. We really enjoyed celebrating with all our wonderful friends and ended the day exhausted and happy. Our daughter couldn't stop talking about all her "friends" which now included horses, goats and chickens.
