Having recently discovered Ponyo, I am enamored with this party Kirsten threw for her son. She shares: My son is a huge fan of films by Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Ponyo...) and requested a 'Miyazaki Party' for this 6th birthday.
I had a ton of fun making all the decorations and everything for it. I carved stamps for the invites, painted cardboard characters, made a birthday shirt, leaf party hats, cake, Totoro/acorn buntings and ... basically went nuts. Very DIY, which is why I love to throw parties. The kids got to be creative, too, and made Shrinky-Dink Totoro necklaces and a Ponyo-themed mural for some of the activities. We even had a special guest, Kiki! The guests and birthday boy all had a ball - I'm happy with how it went!

He's an amazing artist and completely under-rated. We own all the major titles from Spirited Away (my favorite ever!) to Ponyo, they're currently sitting in our unfinished nursery awaiting a new set of eyes.

THIS IS THE RADDEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN. We are huge huge HUGE Miyazaki fans! Never occurred to me to theme a party around it. This makes my day, I feel like more people need to get in on the Miyazaki love!
