Best Kids' Parties: A Pinwheel & Pennant Party

A simple, yet classic theme for Malacai's beautiful get-together. Manda shares: For Malacai's third birthday, we threw a Pinwheel & Pennant Party. We wanted to do a party that was mostly home-made, along with being budget friendly.

For the invites, I made tiny little pinwheels and pennants and then sewed them on kraft paper.

For decorations, I made lots of pinwheels in different sizes using Amy Butler designed paper that I got from Michaels. {Making pinwheels is so easy - I loved doing it!} I also made a few pennants using the same paper. I made a Happy Birthday banner from old book pages that I stenciled & then hung on bakers twine. We also used pages from vintage children's books to make banners. I made photo birthday party hats from a Martha Stewart template on her website. My husband and I also made a homemade pinata that we covered with tissue paper "pennants".

We tried to incorporate the pinwheel and pennant theme into the food too. We had pinwheel sandwiches, ham & pickle roll ups that were arranged into a pinwheel shape, cucumber "pennant" sandwiches and fruit kabobs that had melon "pennants" on top!

For desserts, we had a double chocolate cake that had a mini pennant banner and I made mini pinwheel cupcake toppers for the sea salt caramel cupcakes. We also had homemade caramel corn that we served in super cute vintage-inspired bags that I got from HeyYoYo on Etsy.

We also served soda in glass bottles with striped paper straws and had a sparkler for the cupcake - which Malacai got scared of and cried over!

It was so much fun to plan and create this party - and I have pretty decorations to use for feature parties or just to hang for fun!
