Carson decided to join our family 10 weeks early. We are blessed that he is a healthy and energetic baby who keeps us laughing. We knew for his first birthday that we had to party in style. Since a new aquarium has opened in Kansas City, my husband and I knew we wanted to take Carson there. So we planned his first birthday around the aquarium theme.
I made homemade whale, crab, and octopus sugar cookies with royal icing. I also made vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese and buttercream frosting. The cupcakes were decorated with white chocolate crabs and turtles. For a healthier dish, my husband carved a shark out of a watermelon.
As I had a fair share of empty baby jars, I decided to make mini "aquariums" for party favors. I found mini plastic toy whales. I placed them with some glitter, glycerin and water in the jars and glue the tops on. I wrote each kids name and aquarium on the lid. Decorations were tissue paper pom poms and an ombre happy birthday banner made from paint sample swatches.
After the party, our friends joined us at the aquarium!
What fun - thanks Heather!
