While this year's party was way way smaller than the party we had last year, I wanted to make sure that our celebration would be Awesome Letter A-inspired Afternoon Affair. Deciding on the letter A theme was not difficult to do since it was the first letter of Aki's name and also the first letter he learned. Our color motif was orange and blue, my favorite color combination for the last 6 months. It wasn't difficult to jumpstart decorating the house since we already have orange blue pillows, curtains, table cloths etc. To make our Abode more Alive, we made buntings, hangging zigzags and pompoms in orange and blue. We also gathered blue and orange toys and used them as additional party decors.
To make our favorite people in the mood to party, we gave out invitation with lots of words starting with letter A. I am a fan of dress codes so I asked our family to wear A for Azul.
For our menu, we served adult letter A foods such as Andok's Manok and Asado. I went out of my way to research what rice variety to serve. Special thanks to my mom who came from the province to bring Angelica Rice. Those food whose names do not start with our letter of the day still found their way into our menu after I tweaked their names. Aquaculture Tilapia anyone?
I also wanted letter A treats for the dessert table but that idea proved to be quite challenging. I just went for the color theme and brought in candies, chocolates, rice desserts, jell-o, cupcakes and a cake in our color motif. The cute cake was care of Kitkat of Kalea's Confection.
The activities for the kids were also related to the theme. We had a letter A treasure hunt, anaconda snakes (which were just really bubble snakes) and write-the-most-number-of-letter-A's-while-you-are-blindfolded game.
Lastly, we said A for Arigato to the guest with a parting gift that was close to my son's heart. So close that he protested when we start giving away our orange and blue fighting fishes.
