Best Kids Parties: Babar

My Party

Name: Emilie & Sophie (2)
Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Since I was a little girl, I've loved the Babar the Elephant books. So I decided to create a whole Babar party for my twin girls who turned two!

Since Babar is also written in French, I incorporated French words into the handwritten table menu and signs. I designed the invitation and used Etsy for the handcrafted envelopes from real used books! For the dessert table, I re-used paper lanterns and made them into hot air balloons, complete with paper doll cutout Babar elephants. For the cake I bought Babar and Celeste plastic figurines from eBay, added my handmade bunting, and cut out letters from thin fondant, complete with edible big sprinkles. I already had a lot of used Babar books, but I ordered used copies online in English and French and used those on top of white elephants on the dessert table.

That was just inside! For outside, I had a very long low table for the 30 kids, mini green chairs, 4 plastic elephants, yellow crowns made from paper, and balloons. I made many, many yellow crowns like Babar that the kids played with. There was also a handmade photo booth table that the guests loved! I cut out a white "polaroid" type frame out of foam core, and the guests used that for the pictures. Props included the yellow crowns, French beret, huge sunglasses, mustaches, elephant ears and elephant noses. It was a hit!

Other French influences were in the "French fries", croissants and cheese selection. I also cut out about 50 sandwiches in the shapes of elephants! I used vintage Babar prints on the table, cake pops made of donuts, rock candy and paper dot candy. The favors were from the Target $1 bin - Babar plastic boxes topped with printable thank you tags from an Etsy vendor.

I worked for weeks on this party mainly when my twins were sleeping at night :) And lots and lots of trips to Target, Michaels, Homegoods and the grocery store!

Lovely - thanks Rachel!
