We bet Stan and Jan would love this party! Suzi shares: With The Berenstain Bears being a favorite at our house, we thought it fitting to celebrate Reese's 3rd Birthday with a BB themed party. Not only do we love reading the classic Berenstain Bears stories, but as a parent we enjoy the lessons that the books convey to our girls.
On most days we can find our kids pretending to be characters from the stories, re-enacting parts and story lines from their bedroom. It's so fun to see them enjoy the stories that I grew up with too!
We currently have a decent sized BB Book collection, but that didn't stop me from finding a ton more books on eBay to use as decorations and gifts as well as some vintage (1986) Berenstain Bear figures to use on the cake. Since the older books and collectibles are harder to come by, using online sources worked out great and gave me a lot to work with when it came to planning for the party.
I had the idea to make the Bear Family Treehouse as the cake and position the Bear family around it. In the past I've always made our kids' cakes, but this year, I knew I may be in over my head. Instead, I enlisted the help of a super talented cake decorator and friend (Little Par-teas) who did an amazing job in making my vision come to life. When Reese saw the cake, her face lit up and she couldn't stop smiling. It was priceless.
I was able to up-cycle some very "loved" BB Books we had in order to make garland for above the table and around the room as well as for a runner down the center of the table, edged in rick rack and chair markers for the backs of the chairs. It was great watching my girls look at each one and discuss what book it was from. Another way that I reused the books was to make hair bows from the heavier book covers. They were nothing fancy, but they sure were a big hit!
All in all, our little Berenstain Party came together and was exactly what I wanted for Reese's 3rd Birthday.
How wonderful! Thanks Suzi!
