San Francisco, CA
For Maggie's first birthday, we went with a bows & fiesta theme. I serve enchiladas and Mexican fare at almost all of our parties anyway, so this one we just added the "fiesta" decor to our standard party menu.
Maggie got her her first taste of cake, she sampled my dad's agua frescas, adored the bright fringed streamers, and was bubbly and friendly all day (or perhaps she was just on a sugar high?).
I wrote "UNO" with icing on the middle of the cake, and added polka dots & a lollipop candle (which my older daughter tried to taste several times). I made the bow clip favors for the little girls who attended, and the big kids got to hit a pinata and collect traditional Mexican candy. The "Las Bebidas" letters I cut freehand, and the Papel Picado I cut from tissue loosely based on a tutorial I googled. Tissue paper is so handy sometimes!
We had a happy & messy little baby on our hands when it was all said and done, so I would say it was a total success!
