Name: Ava, 7 Location: Charlotte, NC When my daughter Ava told me she wanted a camping themed party, I was super excited! Camping is one of our family's favorite things to do... I started with making seven A-frame tents for the kids to play in. I had a few inside, and placed a few more in the back yard. We had a scavenger hunt for the kids and gave them all scavenger hunt cards, twig pencils and a paper bag to collect all of their treasures. I made silverware packets to add a little more of a "camping" feel, and so the kids could carry their utensils more easily. We had traditional camping fare with a couple added extras- hot dogs, chili, coleslaw, roasted corn, pasta salad, chuck-wagon beans, s'mores and lemonade served in mason jar glasses. Everyone roasted marshmallows in the campfire, but I also wanted to make cupcakes for anyone who did not want a s'more. Ava does not like icing, so figuring out what kind of cake to fix has always been a bit of a challenge. I decided to go along with the s'more idea and make s'more cupcakes- chocolate cake, marshmallow fluff for icing which I browned with a kitchen torch and then topped it all with a mini s'more. It was one of the highlights of the party. When everyone was ready to leave, we gave them a "Camp Ava Survival Kit" with fish bait (gummy worms) and s'more trail mix (golden grahams, marshmallows and chocolate morsels). We also sent them home with one of the tents...what was I going to do with seven tents? It was a wonderful day...the best day ever...according to the birthday girl : ) Thanks, Angela!
