Name: Max, Age 5
Location: Chicago, IL
When my son Max told me he wanted a construction birthday party, my first thought was, "He does realize his birthday is in February and he lives in Illinois, right?" I had no idea how I would do a construction party indoors in the middle of winter, but heck, challenge accepted.
Ultimately, I came up with the idea to use cardboard boxes as bricks to let the kids build a big house. We added lots of craft supplies so that they could decorate the house once it was constructed and colorful duct tape to hold everything together. The verdict? It was a success. Cardboard boxes really are the perfect toy, and the kids loved building, decorating, and demo-ing their house.
We didn't do a lot of themed food and stuff this year. I simply didn't have the time, but the addition of hard hats, cone cups and lots and lots of caution tape rounded out everything nicely!
Ultimately, Max thought his construction party was "so awesome," and he's already told me he wants a dinosaur party next year. Thinking hats on...
