Best Kids' Parties: Cowboy

My Party

Name: Jasper Jack, 2
Location: Rockland County, NY

Jasper's favorite book was about a cowboy, so it seemed like the ideal theme, particularly for an outdoor BBQ!

The colors were kraft paper brown with blue highlights because blue is Japer's favorite color! There were other touches of red like in the red bandana napkins and red checkered table cloths. I made all of the decorations myself, including the drink and food labels and the banner that we hung under the pergola. This was a fantastically easy project because I just bought 8x10 sheets of a card stock paper called "brown bag" that I bought at the craft store and printed directly on the card stock from my printer. Hanging the letters with clothes pins to twine took merely seconds! I also designed the custom invitations, thank you cards and the "Wanted" posters which we hung on the front door and one above the drink table.

The cake had white buttercream frosting and I made marshmallow fondant the night before to cut out little "cowprint" shapes to make it look theme appropriate. The cupcakes and toppers were a last minute project when I panicked that the cake might not feed all of our guests!

I set up a photobooth complete with boas, hats and props, and made sure to get a picture of every guest. I included a 4x6 print with the thank you cards.

When Dabney's not writing around here, she's digging through other people's attics for fun and interesting stuff, or running around with her bloodhound Friday. Originally from the East Coast, she's still shocked to find herself living in Missouri.
