You had us at dinosaur egg pinata. Kate shares her terrific party for her son's first birthday: I toiled with theme ideas for Little C's first birthday party for a whole year! I finally decided on a dinosaur and maps theme after finding gorgeous vintage maps at an estate sale. My little boy loves to "rawr" and make dinosaur noises, so it was a good fit. It turned out to be a fun and simple theme to pull off!

I themed the party around the map theme with a topography fondant cake and the greens and browns of maps. We ate prehistoric foods like "swamp punch," "prehistoric dirt" and "herbivore treats." We had a "dinosaur egg" pinata and handmade dinosaur plushes roaming around the room. For extra decoration I put celery and lettuce in vases on the table, to look like a lush prehistoric swamp.

Super cool - thanks Kate! Readers, check out more of this party on See Kate Sew.
