Best Kids Parties: Donuts

My Party

Name: Jake, 2
Location: San Diego, CA

Who doesn't love donuts? You don't have to spend a fortune to have a great party! Sometimes you just need a little imagination. When it comes to kids, they just want something that's fun. For Jake's 2nd birthday we had a fabulous donut party that was loved by both kids and adults.

While I've always loved creative things, I use to feel a little lost when it came to executing my artistic vision because I'm not a very good drawer or painter. Turns out I just needed my son Jake to inspire me. My ideas don't have to be perfect or fancy, they just need to make Jake smile or squeal with delight. When my son came out of his room the morning of his birthday he was so excited to see his birthday surprise. He then immediately proceeded to tear down his birthday banner and grab a handful of donut holes! Success!

Happy Birthday banner, plates, napkins, and paper straws are all from Target. Polka dot trays are from IKEA. And best of all, the donuts are from the best donut shop in San Diego - VG Bakery. I made the DIY sprinkle covered frame with a bit of adhesive spray and the sprinkle covered cups had rims that were dipped in frosting and then rolled in sprinkles.

DIY play donuts were very easy to make from dollar store socks and felt. No sewing required. Tutorial can be found on my blog. The balloon backdrop was created from clear balloons filled with paper confetti, then tied to the party favors.
Party Favors were tin cans from Target's $1 bin, filled with M&Ms, matchbox cars, Play-doh, bubbles, and my DIY play donuts. Chalkboard signs were purchased from IKEA. We also did a DIY donut finger print guest book. The idea was for everyone to leave a fingerprint on the donut so that it looked covered in sprinkles.
Lastly, we did a giant donut toss. Using an inflatable donut from Amazon, kids tossed the play food donuts into the giant donut for a prize.

Thanks, Sam!
