Best Kids Parties: Dragons

My Party: Oscar

Name: Oscar (1)
Location: Philadelphia, PA

Oscar wasn't born in the Year of the Dragon but his first birthday fell in it, and with our little one year old being as feisty and spirited as he is the dragon theme fell right into our laps.

We love bright colors and decided to go with vivid oranges and reds for the party which excited and dazzled our 3-year-old to all levels of excitement. All of my inspiration came from Pinterest!

Decorations:
Papa-made flying dragons drawn on construction and suspended from the ceiling. Mama-made a dragon made from plastic cups and streamers as a flying puppet centerpiece. Felt banner with "Oscar is 1" written across, in red and orange of course. Classic orange and red balloons, streamers, and little dragon pictures.

Invitations:
Mama-made dragons whose wings opened to reveal the party theme and info. Hand delivered in oversized scrapbook paper envelopes.

Games:
Mama-drawn "face in a hole" for picture opportunities. One side was a dragon and the other a fairy princess.

Parting gifts:
All fairy princesses (girls) were given mama-made tutus and fairy princess wands. All dragons (boys) were given mama-made dragon tails to wear around their waists and mama-made dragon puppets.

Food:
The mama-made cake was a ferocious red and orange dragon adorned with hershey kiss spikes and gummy fire.

Birthday boy:
Wore a shirt with a dragon fabric applique ironed on and a mama-made dragon sweatshirt.

Birthday boy's big sister:
Wore a shirt with a princess fabric applique ironed on and an orange tutu. She also wore a mama-made dragon sweatshirt in case she was feeling more ferocious and less fairy.

Thanks Emily!
