Best Kids Parties: Eames Elephants

My Party

Name: Ronan
Location: Portland, OR

For our son's first birthday we had an Eames elephant themed party with a cute elephant cake, cupcakes and cookies from a local bakery, custom-labeled (using sticker printer paper and a pic of my son) sodas and milk.

I strung my son's monthly photo (him on a Stendig calendar) around the room as a timeline and had tags up listing his developmental milestones such as "rolled over for the first time." My sister made the tablecloth with fun chevron fabric from Etsy and I made the cake bunting. I found a cool chalkboard tablecloth on Etsy and wrote things on it like, "Yum" and "Mama says don't forget to drink your milk." The centerpiece of the table was a large photo canvas of Ronan posing with his Eames elephant chair. Party colors were: black, grey, chartreuse and light blue. There were lots of balloons!

We had a homemade photo book with a Fuji instant camera. Guests were encouraged to take their photo with a variety of silly props...bowler hats, mustaches, Groucho glasses, large frames, bow ties, chalkboard "speech bubbles" and some giant photo cutouts of my son's face. They could then post a photo in Ronan's birthday book and write him a message. It was so much fun...even my grandparents did it! Guests also watched a video montage set to music documenting Ronan's first year of life.

Good times were had by all!

Thanks Kathryn!
