Best Kids Parties: Firemen

My Party

Name: Holdon, 3
Location: New Jersey

My son's birthday party theme was decided long ago, right about the time he started exclusively referring to his baby sister as his "fire dog". I guess every hero needs a good sidekick. He has saved every stuffed animal he owns from imminent peril and has fought fires in every store we've gone to in the past six months, so it was only fitting we turn the house into a fire station for his third birthday.

The entryway board and batten became the station lockers, where we placed a personalized fire helmet and "fire hose" (mini water sprayer) for each child. With kids ranging from 1 to 4, I kept the activities pretty casual. I made a fire truck coloring poster out of a $9 engineer print from Kinko's that I tacked to the garage door. We also set up a firefighter obstacle course in the back yard - slide down the pole (slide), put out the fire with your hose (red pom poms and pinwheels) and climb the step ladder to save the kitten from the edge of the deck. At the end of the party each child was given a junior fire chief certificate of achievement, which I found a free printable for on the blog 'How to Nest for Less' and also got to take their water sprayers and helmets home. My little firefighter had a great time, although I think he was a little disappointed we didn't dress his baby sister up as a dalmatian.

Thanks, Chrissann!
