Best Kids Parties: Gold Medals

My Party

Name: Olivia (11)
Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Our daughter turned 11 this month. She's a gymnast and was inspired by the Olympics, especially a purple leotard the team wore. Using purple and gold as a starting point, Olivia's Gold Medal Party was born.

I put decor together using a mixture of materials found at craft stores and a few things I already had on hand. Treats included our standard cupcake tower, filled with dark chocolate cupcakes topped with vanilla frosting. My husband designed cupcake toppers to match. I also made a purple ombre cake, idea courtesy of The Hungry Housewife.

Upon arriving at the party, each child was given a gold medal, customized with their initial. I was a little worried the kids wouldn't wear their medal, but they ended up being a huge hit. Backyard games provided lots of activity and even more fun. Bags of healthy-ish trail mix served as party favors. We had a great time, and I think it was one of our most successful parties to date.

Happy Birthday, Olivia!
