I happen to live in Holdon's neighborhood and had I known, I would have crashed his terrific party! His mom Chrissann shares: For a family of ice cream lovers, there was no better location for Holdon's first birthday than Brooklyn Farmacy, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor in our neighborhood.

I DIY'ed most of the decor, incorporating a few of Holdon's other favorite things - balloons and animals. With so many kids in attendance, I also wanted most of the decor to serve the dual purpose of entertaining the little ones. I bought animal figurines from the craft store, painted them blue, and then used them as cupcake toppers. The favors (ice cream cone bubbles and punch balloons) were wrapped in tissue paper and tied with pom pom strands (which I strung using needle, thread and craft pompoms) to an oversized balloon.

The Farmacy provided the most delicious sundaes, egg creams and even homemade red velvet twinkies. My mom, mother-in-law and I supplemented the dessert overload with savory snacks like ham biscuits, caprese salad & pigs in blankets.

I wanted to commemorate having so many of Holdon's favorite people in one place with a "message in a milk bottle" time capsule. Guests wrote little notes to Holdon to read on his 18th birthday & then placed them in a repurposed milk bottle for safe keeping.

Thanks Chrissann!
