Name: Josie, 2
Location: Brooklyn, NY
We had a simple party with homemade cake and ice cream for Josie's second year. The weather is always a bit dreary at the end of February around here, so we focused on a party with bright reds, pinks and greens to brighten the house.
We put fresh flowers around the house. Details included giant 36" balloons from Bargain Balloons.com. (Party City blows these up for us for an amazingly cheap $2/piece, but since they are so huge they won't fit in our car...so we tied four giant balloons to our stroller and walked almost two miles home, getting a lot of smiles as we walked. Josie woke up from her nap, thrilled to be surrounded by pink and red balloons).
We used paper lanterns from Tail of the Yak in Berkely, CA. Homemade fabric heart garlands decorated our mantels- directions at www.domesticspace.com.
The cake was coconut from Ina Garten's recipe. Beeswax #2 Candle from Clothespony in Fort Collins, CO. Homemade cherry vanilla ice cream- recipe at www.domesticspace.com. The jadeite plates and cake stand were a Craigslist score.
I also make Josie a birthday crown every year- examples can be found at //www.etsy.com/shop/jeannerondeau. Her cape is from Wovenplay.
Gift Bags were Josie's older sister Ada's idea. They include a card from Ada, paper tape from Target, mini fan and spiral from Pearl River Trading, NYC, paper straws from Shop Sweet LuLu, temporary tattoos and giant vintage sequins.
The kids at the party ended the evening running around our house with the balloons and playing pinball with the Dads. Josie fell fast asleep on the couch after finishing her ice cream. Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!
