Best Kids Parties: Lions

My Party

Name: Finley, 1
Location: Celebration, FL

Finley Lyon, our long-awaited son, turned 1 in August. We wanted to celebrate this important, miraculous milestone in our lives and Finley's. Born under the astrological sign Leo and with his maternal grandfather's middle name of "Lyon", we decided to go with a lion theme, in sunny shades of yellow, befitting of Finley's bright, happy personality!

My husband and I hosted a small party with close friends and family. I was lucky enough to have my mother attend, all the way from my native Nova Scotia, Canada. We rented an outdoor space at the private Artisan Park Clubhouse in our town of Celebration, FL, otherwise known as the "Disney town". :-)

With lots of seating, a covered "gazebo" area with a plethora of ceiling fans overlooking the pool (all important in August in Florida!), an outdoor grill and sink area, our invited guests could take a dip while my husband grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, kielbasa and ribs. We had two huge coolers filled with ice, real fruit juice boxes, beer, wine and water, as well as fruit and veggie platters, homemade pasta salad and clear vases leftover from our wedding flower arrangements, filled with gold fish, plum puffs and graham crackers.

All That's Pretty from Etsy helped bring my vision to life with the beautiful decorations. I also went with other Etsy sellers for the kids' treat bags, which were filled with all-natural creamy yellow lion soaps, monogrammed crayons in each child's initials, and mini-swirl pops. Each child also went home with one of my all-time favorite children's books, that held special meaning for me.

Thanks, Leah!
